A change.org petition to convince  Rockstar to release GTA V on PC has gained over 210,000 signatures, out of a 300,000 target. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version of the game, due out on September 17th on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

PC gamers are understandable nervous about the lack of confirmation for their platform. All GTA games have been really popular on PC, and the modding communities around them are really active – we still see new mods for GTA San Andreas, which is 9 years old. GTA IV looked best on PC, and also has a huge amount of user created mods.

The petition may unnecessary, of course. Rockstar typically releases PC versions 6 or 8 months after the consoles. It would be very surprising if GTA V wasn’t eventually released on PC, and a recent job advert suggested it is indeed in the pipeline. Some developers have complained that making PC versions of games is not worth the investment due to piracy, but it’s not something Rockstar seem concerned about.

It’s most likely Rockstar have not confirmed the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V because they keep very tight control of releasing information. Drip feeding fans with GTA information in the months (or years) up to a release has worked very well for them so far.
