Yesterday we reported that NVIDIA appeared to confirm the upcoming release of GTA V for PC, after it was mentioned in an earnings report about the state of PC gaming.

Any leak of GTA V information sets the internet alight, and NVIDIA’s statement was no exception. However, as we wrote yesterday, the claim that GTA V on PC would be coming out this fall seemed wrong, as Rockstar have not announced it, and usually release PC versions of games a few months later than on consoles.

GTA V for PC claim was a mistake says NVIDIA

Rockstar keep tight control of the flow of information about new games, and would probably be annoyed with this NVIDIA story denting their own marketing campaign.

NVIDIA released this statement retracting the claim about GTA V.

Please note, during our Thursday’s earnings call, our investor relations team provided a list of important games that gamers are looking forward to on PC this fall, and included Grand Theft Auto V on that list. This statement was made with the intent of expressing enthusiasm for the games industry in general, and was not intended to represent specific knowledge possessed by NVIDIA. NVIDIA does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability. We deeply regret the error.

We still expect GTA V to be released on PC, probably in early 2014, in line with previous Rockstar release schedules. The PC is still a huge gaming platform, and the enthusiastic modding communities keep popular games like Grand Theft Auto alive and selling for much longer than their console counterparts.

Stay tuned for the brand new GTA V multiplayer trailer, coming tomorrow.
