Ads in Google search are about to get bigger. The search company is experimenting with new banner ads for branded searches for more visibility at the top of search results.

The ad pictured below shows off what the new banner ads would look like. Southwest Airlines is clearly a branded search so leveraging the top spot for paid advertising isn’t that surprising. The search results aren’t anything new; Google currently posts results to popular pages of a company’s site as the top results. The image only helps draw attention to the links and ads are clearly marked with a “Sponsored” tag at the top right.

A Google spokesperson speaking to Search Engine Land confirmed that the company is running a “small experiment” with banner ads for branded search in the US market.
