Google has announced its second round of ‘spring cleaning’, and among the services shutting down is RSS feeder, Google Reader on July 1st 2013. The spring clean started last year, which killed off Google Desktop, but Reader will be missed much more.

Launched in 2005, it allows you to collect articles from sites you like all in one place, using RSS feeds. It was last updated in 2011 to include some Google+ features, and a cleaner design. Google Reader has lots of enthusiastic fans, but its fairly utilitarian presentation meant it never really caught on with the mainstream.

There’s already a petition to stop the shut down at Change.org if you want to express your support for the service, or you can go to Google Takeout and export your data for use in another RSS feed reader.

Will you miss Google Reader?
