Google has updated Maps for iOS with alternative route notifications while in navigation mode. Previously, Google Maps for iOS displayed various routes before you began navigation but it didn’t have the ability to reroute you if you ran into traffic. That changes today as Maps for iOS will display faster route notifications while in navigation mode.
Google’s purchase of social mapping company Waze has helped the company better integrate traffic alerts in its Maps products and it’s likely this update leverages Waze data. With live traffic data, Maps will now be able to suggest alternative routes on the fly, which should take the headache out of driving in traffic.
The app remains free and can be found in the App Store or at the download link below.
