Google has been on a cleaning spree with its forgotten services lately. Google Reader recently closed and now it’s Google Latitude’s turn, the location sharing service that’s integrated into Google Maps. Instead, Google is pointing users toward Google+‘s location sharing feature for a replacement.

If you’re a Latitude user, you’ll be upset to find out that everything associated with the service will be killed. The API, website, badges, and apps will all disappear on August 9th. It’s a shame but Google is putting all of its effort behind its Google+ social network, which includes location sharing features. Unfortunately, these features are only available in the Android version of Google+, though the company has promised to bring the location features to iOS “soon.”
