google play iconYesterday we reported on a leaked screenshot showing a redesigned Google Play store. The screenshot was quickly pulled down but Google has now formally announced the update on its official Android blog. The interface has been completely redesigned and features the same “card” style interface of Google Now and Google+. Things have been rearranged so that Play “helps you find great entertainment, fast.”

To make finding content easier, the interface of Play has been revamped with bigger images and icons. Recommendations will also follow users throughout the page, showing up as you move up and down a page. Google has also streamlined purchasing of apps and entertainment so purchases should require fewer taps.

The updated Play store will be rolling out today to Android users running version 2.2 (Froyo) and higher. The roll out will be gradual over the next few weeks so it may be a while until you see the updated store.
