Developer Visceral revealed the first single player campaign gameplay trailer for Battlefield Hardline at today’s Gamescom 2014 EA conference, which moves the series away from soldiers, to police and criminals. We also got to see two new multiplayer game modes: Rescue and Hotwire.

The single player campaign has clearly been influenced by Far Cry 3, offering you a great degree of freedom in how you beat enemies. For the first time in Battlefield, you don’t need to shoot your way through every problem. In the trailer, you can see how stealth is important, alongside other non-lethal ways of disabling enemies like cuffing them.

Hotwire is a multiplayer mode based on ‘cops and robbers’ style car chases, while Rescue sees a Swat team trying to rescue hostages from criminals. The latter is aimed at the burgeoning ‘eSports’ market, while the former is a huge departure for Battlefield multiplayer. While vehicles have always been an important part of the game, Visceral will really have to nail car handling to get this right.

Battlefield Hardline is slated for a March 2015 release on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
