After this week’s fairly dull Firefox 28 update, which didn’t make any radical changes to the browser, Mozilla has now updated its beta channel to Firefox 29 which includes the new Australis design and more new features.

Firefox 29 also introduces the new Firefox sync with Firefox Accounts and there is a new customization mode. The former is similar to Google Accounts – you can easily sync your browsing data on any platform if you sign in to Firefox, and it’s a welcome simplification of the old system. Mozilla has improved the security of the data kept in your Firefox Account, including end-to.end encryption, a new system that protects against ‘man in the middle’ attacks and a new ‘Public key cryptography and the BrowserID protocol’.

The new customization tool allows you to drag and drop functions, tools and add-ons anywhere on Firefox, so it works just the way you want it to. The new Australis design is a big change, with a softer, curvier feel, and an all new interface.

You can download the new Firefox 29 beta here for Windows, Mac and Android.
