Facebook Home , the app that turns your Android into a Facebook phone has been downloaded more than 500,000 times. That’s only half of what Instagram for Android managed in a day, but Facebook Home is only available for a few devices.

Launched on April 12th in the US, and worldwide on April 16th, Facebook Home can only be used on HTC One, HTC One X, Galaxy S3, S4 Galaxy and Galaxy Note II devices. As more phones are added to that list, you can expect Facebook Home’s install base to increase.
We don’t know how many of these downloads will result in long term use. Our mobile editor Christopher Park could manage only five hours before he uninstalled it. It also has a low score of just 2.2 in Google Play, which suggests lots of users will have uninstalled Facebook Home after downloading it.

While it looks great, we found that Facebook Home spoiled a lot of the features of Android that make it such a great operating system. Chat Heads are great for anyone who uses Facebook a lot, but it makes non-Facebook notifications harder to see, and doesn’t support widgets.

Download Facebook Home.
