facebook hashtagsPrepare for hashtag overload as Facebook has announced today that the social network will now support hashtags. There were rumors back in March about this feature coming to Facebook and today it’s a reality. This new feature will work exactly like it does on Twitter, helping users find others who share the same interests.

While Facebook users could technically always generate “hashtags,” they weren’t clickable. Now they are and will take you to content tagged with the same hashtag. Privacy settings still apply here so only content that’s shared publicly or shared by people in your friends list will be available. This is great news for Facebook users who have linked their profiles with other services like Twitter and Instagram. Hashtags from those services will work automatically on Facebook.

Facebook is a bit late to the game with competitors like Twitter and Google+ already supporting this feature. Hashtags will be rolling out to Facebook users starting today.
