After rereleasing a number of patches that crippled some users’ systems, Microsoft is ready its next round of updates for Windows. This time the updates focus on Internet Explorer and a remote execution flaw that could allow attackers control of your computer.
The patch affects all versions of Windows and is therefore rated “critical.” Microsoft is also blocking older versions of ActiveX, a method of sharing information between programs. ActiveX has a long history of being vulnerable to attack so it makes sense for Microsoft to prohibit use of outdated versions.
If you want to eliminate the need for these patches, you can download the latest version of Internet Explorer for your operating system. Windows 8.1 users already have the latest version of IE preinstalled. Windows 7 users however will want to download Internet Explorer 11.
Windows XP users should seriously consider upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.1 as Microsoft has discontinued support for XP, leaving the operating system vulnerable to new attacks.
This group of updates will come out Tuesday, September 9th.
