The next major update to Android could be called Lemon Meringue Pie. The codename ‘Android L’ has been seen for a while, but new documentation refers to the release as LMP. Previous Android names have all been sweet based, like KitKat, Jelly Bean, and Ice Cream Sandwich.

At Google’s I/O event in June, it was referred to as Android L, which is presumably version 4.5 or 5 of the mobile operating system. Many commentators predicted the ‘L’ would stand for Lollipop.

Lemon Meringue Pie seems to be the only likely confectionery with the initials LMP, but in the run up to the announcement of Android KitKat, that release was referred to as ‘Key Lime Pie’, from the initials KLP. So, even if Lemon Meringue Pie is correct, it could still change before the final builds are released.
