Ikaruga, the classic vertical shoot ’em up that first appeared in 2001 in arcades, but was perhaps most loved on Sega’s Dreamcast console, will be released for PC via Steam on February 18th.

Ikaruga is famous for its polarity mechanic: enemies and bullets come in black or white, and you can change your polarity to be able to absorb one of them. It’s an example of ‘bullet hell’ games, where the screen will fill with bullets and you have to skilfully weave around them to survive.

Ikaruga hasn’t been the easiest game to get; it was last released on Xbox 360 in 2008, and was also available on the Nintendo GameCube. It is also available on Android, but without physical controls you don’t get the best experience. Steam should give the game a bigger audience, and an ‘authentic’ shoot ’em up experience.

Developer Treasure has said Ikaruga is only the beginning for PC. It is also considering porting other games like Radiant Silvergun, and even making an original game for PC.
