Windows Phone users shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for Candy Crush Saga to be released. According to French site PocketGamer.fr, its development has been put on hold ‘indefinitely’.
Candy Crush Saga is one of the most popular and successful mobile games of recent years, and has a very addictive mix of puzzle gameplay and free-to-play mechanics. It’s a surprise that its developer King has halted its production for Windows Phone. Could it be because King feels Windows Phone is not popular enough to develop for, or has Candy Crush’s star begun to fade?
PocketGamer suggest the first is most likely. Windows Phone growth may be stagnating, and certainly shows no signs of catching up to Android or iOS. However, development of Candy Crush for Windows phone is only ‘paused’, so it could be restarted one day, although it’s already been heavily delayed, as it was originally planned for release in Spring 2014.
