Developer Alen Stojanov has created a Greasemonkey script for Firefox, Absterge, that will automatically delete everything from your Facebook Activity Log.

Normally, you have to review each activity on Facebook individually, which can take a long time. Of course, Facebook wants to give you a way to review and edit your history, not delete it all. With Absterge you can delete everything, year by year, from your Activity Log.

You might want to do this to ‘clean’ your past behavior on Facebook, or perhaps as a compromise between staying and leaving the social network. Deleting your activity means no-one will be able to see anything you did on Facebook anymore.

Stojanov explains that Absterge is still rough around the edges, and is appealing for help to adapt the script so it has a proper interface, and feedback about the posts being removed. Currently, once you start, everything is deleted without further warning, so be careful!

Facebook turns 10 years old next week, and despite rumors of its coming demise and plenty of privacy controversies, it remains by far the most popular social network and there’s nothing on the horizon that might take over.

Here’s how to use the script, as Stojanov explains:

  1. Install Firefox (any OS on any architecture)
  2. Install Greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/…)
  3. Download and install the Absterge script available above.
  4. Log in to Facebook and make sure that Facebook Timeline is available.
  5. Navigate to the ‘Activity Log’.
  6. The script will start unrolling the current expanded year triggering the ‘More Activity’ click event.
  7. As soon as the script finds posts / comments / status updates, those will be automatically removed, without warnings.
  8. In order to remove the activity of another year, just expand the year tab. The script will take care of the rest
